The new format of the Boys are back in town sale of terminal sire breeding tups was deemed a great success by vendors and buyers a like with a wonderful atmosphere throughout the evening. Purchasers were looking to purchase good quality rams with power and confirmation. The sale peaked £850 for a Texel shearling from Josh Capstick, Ingleton with others from the same home selling to £700. Other leading prices for Texel shearling tups was £750 from TH Garnett & Son, Stank followed by the consignment of Texel shearling tups from RG Blackburn, Penrith selling to £720, £700 and £620. This was followed by £650 from GR & RA Surtees, Lancaster. Aged texel tups sold to £550 from M Johnston, Heversham with a three shear. A consignment of Texel tup lambs from Messrs Hewson, Carlisle sold to £500, £400 and £380 twice.

Beltex cross shearling tups peaked at £800 from G Sowerby, Appleby followed by Beltex cross Charollais tups selling to £700 and £600 twice from JA & R Geldard & Sons, Levens. Plenty more continental tups saw strong tups regularly selling in the region of six hundred pound.

Suffolk breeding rams in big demand and short of supply in which more could have easily been sold to the advantage of the vendors. Suffolks peaked at £680 for a tup lamb from Messrs Hewson, Carlisle with Suffolk shearlings selling to £550 from J & L Howard, Cockerham. Blue Texel breeding rams sold to a top of £480 for a two shear from Joe and Emily Bargh, Heaton with Oxcliffe.

The next sale of breeding rams at J36 Rural Auction Centre is the “Lakeland Fair” on Saturday 22nd October. Entries for this sale close on Wednesday 5th October.
